NPT

NPT (National Pipe Taper) threads are the North American pipe-thread standard, used widely across the continent and on equipment exported from it. The taper forms the seal as the joint is tightened, which is also why over-torquing is so common and so damaging.

Check the nominal size against the actual thread — NPT sizes do not correspond to the measured diameter. Use a sealant or PTFE tape rated for the fluid, and torque to specification rather than past it. NPT and BSPT will not seal together correctly even when the size reads the same.
